Ricardo Basta is an Argentinean jewelry designer located in Southern California. Although born and raised in Buenos Aires, Mr. Basta moved to the United States at age 19 to work for his uncle who owned and operated a jewelry store. It was in this store that he began his career by sweeping the floors.
Later on, however, Basta began working for a high-end retailer in Beverly Hills known as Frances Klein, which specialized in antique estate pieces. It was at this time that Basta gained an appreciation for the designs and craftsmanship from the restored and designed pieces from the Victorian, Edwardian, and Art Deco periods. Ultimately, this is what inspired his very own designs.
Although Basta is renowned for his master craftsmanship, he has also become known for his engineering innovations because much of his jewelry is created with built-in movement. He has also become recognized in his field as a platinum expert. In the mid 1980s, when it was not a well-known art form, he began to cast in platinum even when most design houses were not even using it.
Today, Ricardo Basta has been adorned with multiple awards and honored in jewelry exhibitions in both the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Gemological Institute of America. Each ring that the designer makes is hand forged and original, created with old world techniques to maintain the highest quality and the most unique look that is symbolic of the individual.
