Manual Winding movements
As the name implies, these movements are wound by turning the crown. The tensioned mainspring drives the wheels inside the watch as it gradually relaxes. Whether ultra thin, cut-away “skeleton”, simple or complicated, the manually wound movement is greatly appreciated by aficionados of traditional watch making.

Self-winding movements
In these timepieces, the mainspring is wound by a rotor, which is set in motion by wrist movements. Patek Philippe rotors are crafted from 21K or 22K gold because the high specific gravity of the precious metal optimizes the kinetic energy yield. Patek Philippe has been manufacturing self-winding movements since 1953 and has developed a number of high performance mechanisms, many of which form the basis of complicated movements that delight the most discerning watch lovers.

Quartz movement
As a pioneering company that always remains faithful to its philosophy of excellence, Patek Philippe was among the very first watchmakers to explore the potential of electronic timekeeping in 1948. It has every reason to be proud of its high-precision quartz movements whose plates, bridges and wheel trains comply with the same high quality standards that apply to its mechanical movements. This assures high rate accuracy and an extremely constant amplitude of the balance.
